January 2026 - Balmeanach Wind Farm Planning Committee

Despite a recommendation for approval from the council planning officer, on 21st January 2026, the North Planning Area Committee of The Highland Council refused the Balmeanach Wind Farm planning application (23/04194/FUL). The project originally consisted of 10 turbines and associated infrastructure – however, through the planning process, the design evolved and one turbine was removed. The project consists of nine turbines, all up to 149.9m in height, with no requirement for visible aviation lighting.

Considering the recommendation for approval and the absence of objections from statutory consultees, EDP Renewables intends to appeal this decision to the Scottish Government.

EDP Renewables remains committed to the project and supporting its surrounding communities.
